Ben,
I had to send these pictures right away. It took my buddy and me 2 weekends to fabricate the pieces and about 2 hours to assemble it. I was anxious to see how it worked first before I painted it. I am going to paint it black with rust inhibiting paint. I know you recommend galvanizing but I figure if I put a new coat of paint on every year it should stop the rusting.

Ben, how did such a ugly guy get such a lovely wife? Just kidding. Well I just finished installing my turbine on the tower. I had a bit of trouble until I realized my brother-in-law installed the keeper pin on the wrong side. It works great!! Nice and smooth. My neighbor was so impressed that we are building him a tower next spring. Thanks again!!

We finished our tower 2 months ago. We are tickled pink!! It took me awhile to read the prints. I am used to a “how to” portion. But the prints were easy to read and I figured it out with only a few hick-ups. I am thinking of installing a bigger turbine next year. I have devised a way to install guy line on the tower. Please look at my sketches and tell me what you think.

Ben,
It's up and I love it! Here she is with the non-telescoping 10' (8' projecting) top piece in place. The top piece is constructed of 2"x2"x1/4" wall square tubing (hot dip galvanized along with the rest of the tower components). The tower top is 52' above ground level.
The tower supports the apex of a center fed Zepp (inverted vee dipole) amateur radio antenna. The two wire radiating elements are almost invisible in this photo, but you can see the feedline slanting down and to the right from the tower top. Each wire element is approximately 130' long and terminates 20' above ground level at the top of a 20' length of aluminum pipe.
I have additional photos if you are interested.
Thank you again for a really nice design. The tower's mechanisms work flawlessly. One thing that I believe would improve the plans would be to include detail drawings for the upper and lower latch pins. I hope you approve of my interpretation of what was needed. I have CAD drawings of what I did if you wish to see them.
For your information, hot dip galvanizing cost me $350. For this price, I had to haul the tower pieces to/from the galvanizing plant.
I'm eager to get everything hooked up and to experience my new antenna in operation. Heck, if I never get the antenna hooked up, this tower looks great just standing there...... and thanks to your plans, I was able to build it myself.
